Three area individuals were selected to join the volunteer board of directors of Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity.

All three bring a unique perspective to the board as well as a history of participation with the organization, Habitat reported.

Nancy Gervais, her husband, Matt and four children have lived in the Brainerd lakes area for the past 18 years and are members of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. Since 2000, Gervais has operated Round Lake Quilting, a machine quilting business. Gervais has served for 13 years as the Habitat for Humanity Project chairperson for PineTree Patchworkers Quilt guild. The guild provides the ‘gift of warmth’ (bed size quilt) to Habitat families as they move into their homes.

Jesse Hopkins of Brainerd is employed by Nor-Son Inc. as a project architect specializing in homes, hospitality and healthcare. Hopkins has lived and worked in the Brainerd lakes area for nine years with his wife Desiree and their three children. Desiree Hopkins served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with LAHFH for three years and is a member of the family selection committee. Jesse Hopkins is a member of St. Andrew’s Church, the Brainerd Rotary Club and is currently serving as the Brainerd Rotary Foundation Board president.

Becky Twamley, her husband Brian and two daughters have lived in Brainerd for 15 years. Twamley is a pharmacist at Essentia Health Brainerd Pharmacy and a member of First Congregational Church in Brainerd. She is a second generation board member as her father, Erv Reuther, served on the board in the past. Twamley said both her father and mother, Sandra, are still active volunteers.

Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity serves families in Cass, Crow Wing and Hubbard Counties with affordable homeownership.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
