Record attendance at Winter Wonderland

Sertoma’s 2011 Winter Wonderland lighting display reached an all-time record attendance, Sertoma organizers reported.

Jessica Scott, sales and marketing coordinator, said 26,500 people went through the gates during the six-week event. Scott said even though there was a lack of snow, the added special events, held on Sundays, helped attendance records.

“Our light displays were magical as always and with the events like our walking evenings, enchanted dinners and horse hay rides there were several options for family outings again this year,” said Scott.

The annual event raised more than $100,000 in its previous years and continues to raise the bar with each year’s events, organizers reported. Scott said last year $40,000 was raised and organizers anticipate the same amount raised this year.

Lori Rubin, event co-chair said in an email release: “This event takes thousands of hours to put on and our community is a huge part of that, we feel blessed to have the support of so many. The amount of local organizations and people that are touched by the proceeds are in the hundreds annually.”

The planning for 2012 is under way.
