Stearns County deputy injured after semi hit squad

AVON, Minn. (AP) — A semi tractor-trailer skidded and clipped the rear of a sheriff's patrol car on an icy Interstate 94, injuring a Stearns County deputy.

KNSI-AM reports ( ) the deputy was treated for minor pain and released from a St. Cloud hospital a few hours later. It happened around 5 a.m. Friday on Interstate 94 in Avon Township.

Stearns County Sheriff's Lt. Bob Dickhaus says the deputy was on the shoulder aiding State Patrol officers at the scene of other weather-related accidents when a semi hit the squad.

The collision sent both vehicles into a ditch. The jackknifed truck closed eastbound traffic until around 9 a.m.
