Surprise donor helps Ski Gull reach McQuinn family match
Surprise donors pledge $50,000 to Ski Gull
John Hart and his wife Carrie, from Crosslake and London, England, stepped forward with a $50,000 donation to help Ski Gull meet a McQuinn family $100,000 match. The McQuinn family created the $100,000 debt reduction match to Ski Gull in honor of their late son Charles, 41, who died in an automobile crash in September of 2011.
Charles McQuinn served on the Ski Gull Board and was known for giving back to the community.
Ski Gull reported the surprise donation came at a good time.
“The recession has been hard on people and fundraising has been very difficult the last two years,” said Laurie Fitterer, Ski Gull Board president, in a news release. “Finding the money to meet the McQuinn match has been challenging.”
The Harts have a history of supporting United Kingdom organizations that focus on children. Ski Gull reported the Harts felt Ski Gull’s mission of building confidence, character and lifelong skills was important. The donation will go toward further debt reduction and operations at Ski Gull, the nonprofit organization reported.
It is hoped the donation from the Harts will encourage other contributors. Ski Gull is accepting contributions on line at www.GIVEMN.org.
Ski Gull, near Lake Shore, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
