Foreclosures continue positive trend

Crow Wing County had 17 foreclosures for February, continuing a welcome trend this year.

So far in 2012, foreclosures have yet to top 20 for a month. The 17 foreclosures in February were the lowest number for that month in five years. In February of 2009, there were 43 foreclosures. There were 35 foreclosures in February of 2008, 24 in February of 2010 and 28 in February of 2011.

In the past five years, there have been just six months where foreclosures were below 17 for the monthly total.

In January, there were 14 foreclosures, a drop from the 29 posted in December of 2011.

Looking into the future, there were 38 notices of pendency, which are an indication of how many homes are near foreclosure.

How does that compare to previous years? There were 41 notices of pendency in February of 2011 and 34 notices for that same month in 2010.

In 2011, the Minnesota Homeownership Center reported there were 21,298 homes sold at sheriff’s sales in Minnesota.
