Man suffers fractured skull in Sunday assault
A 22-year-old Pine River man was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital with serious head injuries after he was assaulted in a Lake Shore parking lot early Sunday morning.
Lake Shore Police Chief Steve Sundstrom said William Kassulker, 25, Pillager, was arrested and is being held in the Crow Wing County Jail pending formal charges of third degree felony assault. Sundstrom said Kassulker left the scene of the assault but was arrested later Sunday.
The incident was reported about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The assault reportedly took place in the parking lot at Zorbaz on Gull in Lake Shore, just off Cass County Road 77.
The assault victim was first transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd before being airlifted to St. Cloud. Sundstrom said the victim suffered a fractured skull. Sundstrom said it’s believed the victim was not in a life-threatening condition as of Sunday night. The name of the victim was not released.
Sundstrom said there were witnesses to the assault, which is not believed to have involved a weapon other than the assailant’s hands. Sundstrom said there was no indication what started the altercation or if the victim and assailant knew each other or had previous issues.
Kassulker was pictured on the front page of the Brainerd Dispatch Sunday regarding a story about the Brainerd Lakes Fight Mafia, a Mixed Martial Arts training center in downtown Brainerd.
The Cass County Sheriff’s office and Nisswa Police Department assisted the Lake Shore Police.
