High Altitude Balloon Club to launch Saturday

After two and half months of diligent research and work by seventh and eighth grade students in the High Altitude Balloon Club (HAB) at Forestview Middle School, the finish line is near and they are ready to launch.

The group will gather at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the seventh and eighth grade parking lot at Forestview to send up their payload in to the stratosphere, hoping to reach an altitude of 85,000-plus feet.

Community members are invited to attend the launch, but for those unable to make it who would like to follow along, there’s a smartphone app to help. Smartphone users can download the app PocketFinder and use the username and password - hab - to access information on the payload. A website is also available for tracking at http://www.aprs/fi by searching for a WORC-13 call sign.
