Firefighters prevent detached garage fire from spreading

A detached garage on Legionville Road was fully engulfed when Brainerd firefighters arrived Sunday.

The fire was reported about 5 p.m. at 9797 Legionville Road, in Unorganized Territory, north of Brainerd. Brainerd Fire Department Capt. Daryl Rubbelke said the homeowner suffered minor burns on the arm.

The 18-foot-by-20-foot garage was a complete loss, Rubbelke said. A vehicle inside the garage also burned. The cause of the fire wasn’t known Sunday.

The homeowner was working outside, went into the house and came back outside to find the garage on fire, Rubbelke said.

The fire department responded to the blaze with two engines, two tankers and about 16 people. The fire was about 20 feet from the house and 30 feet from another detached building. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the garage building. Recent rains and cool weather also assisted in containing the fire as a large swamp stretches behind the garage.
