Great Decisions discussion: Mexico, transborder crime and difficulties of governance

CROSBY — Great Decisions, a program of Unlimited Learning, includes viewing foreign policy expert opinions followed by a discussion of the difficulties of governance and transborder crime Monday at Heartwood Senior Living Center, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The drug cartels are producing more drugs and threatening public safety more than ever before. While the Mexican government makes inroads, cartel infiltration is high among public police officers who make as little as 350 a year. The U.S. has aided in the capture of many drug lords, and fosters cooperation with Mexican agencies to counter drug fueled mayhem on both sides of the border, sustain the rule of law, curtail the illicit flow of drugs across the border, while aiding communities in retaining a stronger sense of lawfulness. Discussion by participants will include causes of the spread of drug trade, Mexican political issues, weapons control and the implications for U.S. policy.
