“It’s time for a spring cleanup.”

That’s Paul Covill’s stance, in particular to a piece of property on Bernard Road in Brainerd near North Long Lake.

Worn tires and trashed papers among other elements of garbage litter the property for nearly a mile, making the site look more like a landfill than wooded acreage.

“It’s been like this for three or four years that I know off,” said

Covill, who lives little more than a mile from the property on the north end of the lake. “I called last year to try and get them to clean up the land and now it finally seems like they (Crow Wing County land zoning office) are planning to cleanup it up by June and then gate it off.”

According to Covill, the piece of property was owned by a woman who passed away a few years ago. He filed an official complaint with the land zoning office on April 1 and was assured that it will be cleaned up and add the taxes on the land for the cost of cleanup.

“What’s really sad about (all the garbage) on this property is that all the water from this property drains in to North Long Lake,” said Covill. “People just need to stop dumping their trash on this property.”
