Tony Wenzel has announced that Camp Ripley will be hosting a retirement/breakfast informational seminar on Wednesday at the new Armory cafeteria at Camp Ripley, beginning with “no brand” coffee being poured at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast/seminar at 9 a.m.

Personnel from St. Paul will be speaking on a variety of topics, including Tri-Care Insurance, Retirement Services, and others on what to do when one’s spouses passes. Local personnel from the VA of Morrison County and our Veterans Cemetery will give updates and concerns.

Those who wish to get an application in at the Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, bring your DD 214 (proof of active duty), marriage certificate for spouse, fill out a quick application and you are on file. You can also do this at the cemetery itself. A representative from Chip Cravaack’s office will be on the program. A tour of the Environmental Center will be available at the close of the meeting or about 11 a.m.

There is no fee for this seminar but if you want breakfast, the cost is $6. Spouses are also invited and encouraged to attend this seminar. This is a great get-together for retired folks from Camp Ripley who may have questions or concerns. IDs are required for entry at the main gate.

Call Tony Wenzel at (320) 749-2428 or email chief@brainerd.net for more information or to RSVP to breakfast.

HART hosts ‘baby shower’ Sunday

Heartland Animal Rescue Team (HART) is hosting a “baby shower” for the animals from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at 15494 Dellwood Drive in Baxter.

HART reports it is low on supplies for all of the new “babies” they expect to be coming in this spring and summer. While they are fully stocked on adult cat and dog food, they have nothing in storage for kittens and puppies. For the baby shower, HART will have young puppies and kittens in the lobby for viewing and adoption. This will be a “sneak peak” as many of these animals will be making their first debut for adoption at this event, HART reported.

The animal shelter has a litter of kittens that were born in February that will be shown for the first time at the baby shower.

HART is following with the theme in its lobby decorations, including a baby crib, which will be used to take in donations. HART reports it hopes to have many visitors looking for new pets, and of course hopes to get many donations to help the organization through the summer. Items on HART’s wish list include: dry kitten food, dry puppy food, canned cat food for skinny kittens that need to gain weight, puppy pads and cat litter.
