Ceremony scheduled Friday on Staples railroad overpass project

STAPLES — A ceremony to celebrate the ground breaking for the Staples North/South Corridor with Railroad Overpass Project will take place at 2 p.m. Friday on the project site adjacent to Second Avenue.

The ceremony will involve U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson and representatives from the Federal Highway Administration, Todd County and City of Staples.

The North/South Corridor with Railroad Overpass Project will construct a two-lane north/south collector (urban and rural) roadway and a bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and U.S. Highway 10 in Staples. The bridge and roadway will incorporate a 10-foot pedestrian/bicycle trail for the entire length of the project. The Overpass Project received a $7.65 million federal TIGER II grant.

Construction began Monday and will continue through November.
