Kinship Partners announces awards

Kinship Partners has announced the first annual Women in Kinship Mentoring Award will be presented to Dorothy Janes of East Gull Lake.

Janes exemplifies what an outstanding woman mentor is. As an active senior she decided at the age of 80 to become a Kinship Partner mentor. She was “matched” with a kindergartner named Amber. Together they forged a friendship that has continued long past Amber’s school years. Amber is now a married woman with a baby girl of her own. Janes, who recently celebrated her 99th birthday, remains a positive presence in Amber’s life. Amber refers to Dorothy as her baby’s “great-grandmother.”

Janes will be honored at the Fifth Annual Purses for Partners on Saturday at Grand View Lodge. Tickets for Purses for Partners are available by calling Kinship Partners at 454-8012. They are $30 for adults and $15 for girls 12 and under. All tickets must be purchased in advance.

Kinship Partners also recently awarded the Pat McGuire Memorial “Real Men Are Mentors” Award to Roger Forcelle of Pequot Lakes.

For more than nine years Forcelle has been matched with Wade Wernecke. As Wade’s mother stated, “Roger has been a part of my son’s life since he turned 7. What a blessing for my son Wade with having such a great male role model in his life. Since Wade has no grandfathers and I don’t have a brother, Roger was it. He was consistent, dependable and made Wade feel loved. They have been meeting almost every Thursday night for the past nine years.”
