Brainerd Fire Chief Kevin Stunek has been selected as the 2012 Good Samaritan Bowl Community Ambassador.

Liz Csanda, Good Samaritan Society (GSS) community relations director, said when the GSS bus burned in January, Stunek and the Brainerd Fire Department were on site within minutes. Csanda said in recognition for his years of dedicated service, Stunek was selected as the ambassador.

“I’m very humbled,” Stunek said of the honor. “It’s surreal. I like to talk about the fire department and what a good job they do.

“This will be a nice way to support the community. It’s for a good cause.”

Stunek said the honor also means more to him since his father. Herb Stunek, 86, lives at the GSS-Bethany Senior Living Apartments. Herb Stunek, along with other Bethany apartment tenants, will be on hand when Kevin Stunek bowls at the Good Samaritan Bowl event. Bowling times of the event will be at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on May 6; 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 7 at Jack’s House. Stunek is scheduled to bowl at noon May 7 at Jack’s House. The event also will take place at noon, 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Community Bowl in Pine River.

Stunek has been out and about in the community helping to promote the Good Samaritan Bowl.

Csanda said the money raised this year will go toward a new bus for the residents. Csanda said last year’s bowling event was the top fundraiser in the entire GSS non-profit organization.
