Two injured in motorcycle crash

LAWLER — Two Cromwell residents were injured Sunday night in a motorcycle crash on Aitkin County Road 16, about a half mile north of Lawler, reported the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

It was reported that a 2007 Harley Davidson, driven by Shale Korpela, 21, Cromwell, had apparently stalled in the roadway when it was struck by a northbound 2003 Harley Davidson driven by Erick Heikkila, 29, Cromwell. Both were transported by ambulance to Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin. Korpela was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where she was reported in serious condition Monday. Heikkila was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. Information on Heikkila’s condition was unavailable Monday.

The sheriff’s office reported that neither driver was wearing a helmet and alcohol may have been a factor.

The crash was reported at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Assisting the sheriff’s office at the scene were the McGregor Area Ambulance, McGregor First Responders, the McGregor Fire Department, North Ambulance, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol and the Aitkin Police Department.
