May rainfall: 8.92 inches

May’s near-record rainfall of 8.92 inches in Brainerd was a stress reliever for trees and other greenery according to Mark Mortensen, program forester for the DNR.

“It did take us out of the drought condition as far as the forestry condition,” Mortensen said Friday. “It was a welcome relief for forest tree growth and fire danger.”
