Norway Beach Recreation Area near Cass Lake closed due to storm damage

Chippewa National Forest officials have closed the Norway Beach Recreation Area until further notice due to extensive storm damage.

Norway Beach is located 5 miles east of Cass Lake, Minnesota.

The storm on Monday evening, July 2, knocked down large pines in the area and power is out.

The closure is in effect beginning Tuesday, July 3 and includes Cass Lake Campground, Norway Loop Campground, Chippewa Loop Campground and Wanaki Campground. Access to the South Pike Bay Campground is also blocked by large trees and that campground is also closed.

Forest Service fire crews and staff have been working since Monday evening to clear roads.

Norway Beach Recreation Area will be closed until further notice. The Forest Supervisor’s Office in Cass Lake is also closed due to the storm and power outage.

People are asked to stay away from the area due to hazard trees.
