Monday’s Brainerd Dispatch was chosen for the Newseum’s “Today’s Top Ten Front Pages” for the third time.

Monday’s page — with a loon stretching its wings on Gull Lake at the top of the page — was chosen for the top 10 from 817 front pages representing 88 countries. The Dispatch made the list of front pages for the first time ever in May with a front page dominated by storm damage in Crosslake.

A second front page was singled out for recognition in June with a dominant photo of firefighters working to save farm buildings from a fire.

According to Newseum.org, every morning more than 800 newspapers from around the world submit their front pages to the Newseum via the Internet to be part of “Today’s Front Pages.” Different daily editors pick the top 10 and may focus on headlines, photos, innovative design or something else that elevates 10 pages above the rest.

Monday’s Dispatch was among a top 10 list that included papers from Brazil, Austria, Canada, England, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and the Duluth News Tribune with a dominant photo of northern lights at dawn.

The Newseum is a 250,000-square-foot museum of news and news history in Washington, D.C. The Newseum gives visitors an opportunity to experience news history from five centuries with interactive exhibits to educate the public on the value of a free press in a free society and lets people in “behind the scenes to see how and why news is made.”
