Corps waives fees for showers at Big Sandy

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is waving its day-use shower fees for Big Sandy Lake Recreation Area, near McGregor effective immediately.

Residents around the reservoir that lost power and/or septic service due to the recent flood can use the Corps’ shower facilities free of charge through the end of September. The facilities will be closed for the season after September.

For current Big Sandy Lake elevations, visit the Corps’ water control website: http://www.mvp-wc.usace.army.mil/dcp/SDYM5.html. The current elevation is 1,219.3 feet as of 10 a.m., July 18. The Corps has the dam gates fully open and the lake is dropping around 3 inches per day and will continue at this rate unless it rains. The top of normal summer operating level is 1,216.56 feet.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, serves the public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood risk reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. It contributes around $181 million to the five-state district economy.
