LITTLE FALLS — Eleven-year-old Gage VanRisseghem of Little Falls recently started a fundraiser called “Sponsor a Stripe” to help raise funds for a zebra for the Pine Grove Zoo in Little Falls.

Gage, who recently attended a members day event at the zoo, saw a lay-out for future zoo plans, which included a zebra and the zoo already had an area for it to live. With the support of family members and friends, he went to the Pine Grove Zoo director and asked if he could do a fundraiser. The zoo’s board of directors agreed to let Gage pursue the “Sponsor a Stripe” campaign.

Gage recruited all 10 of his cousins, from ages 3 months to 11-years-old, to be on the “Sponsor a Stripe” Committee. At the first committee meeting several neighborhood children heard about it and asked to join and help. Since then more and more children and adults have asked to be a part of it.

The “Sponsor a Stripe” committee is having a “Zebra Garage Sale Fundraiser” with face painting, finger nail painting and more from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Grove Park Zoo Shelter Building

The committee is looking for items they can sell at the garage sale. If anyone has items they would like to donate call Cathy at (320) 630-9843 or Angie at (320) 630-2148. No clothing.

For monetary donations, send it to Pine Grove Zoo, 1200 W. Broadway, Little Falls, MN 56345, attention: “Sponsor a Stripe.” Donations are tax deductible.
