Hunt won't run for another term on Brainerd School Board
It was longer than Jim Hunt had expected to stay, and come the end of this year, he has found the right time to exit.
Elected to the Brainerd School Board in 2009, Hunt said he originally never had the intention to stay the three years that he has, as his term expires Dec. 31.
“I’ve enjoyed my time on the school board,” said Hunt, who served on the long range planning committee, curriculum and activities committee and as the chairman for the legislative committee. “But I ran initially because a position opened up and I was just kind of filling in. It was supposed to be a two-year deal but because of elections, it ended up being three, so my intent all along was to be more of a gap-filler and my plan all along was to not run for a second term.”
Hunt was a former Brainerd High School principal, before serving on the board.
Fellow school board members Reed Campbell and Kent Montgomery are not as sure as Hunt whether they will be returning to the school board next term. Both Campbell and Montgomery’s seats on the school board are also up Dec. 31, 2012.
“I am still giving it some thought, with no definite decision just yet,” said Montgomery, who was appointed in 1999, lost a bid for re-election in 2001 and was then elected again in 2003.
Campbell, first elected in 2003, said he also remains undecided on his plans.
