Hofmann and family find medallion
Paul Hofmann and his family saw it as a way to kill time during their long day at the Crow Wing County Fair where his kids — Patrick, Thomas and Josh — show animals.
Time well spent, as the Hofmann family put an end to the 2012 medallion hunt with their find on Thursday.
“Every year when the boys have been showing animals out here (at the Crow Wing County Fair), we’ve used this (the medallion hunt) as a way to pass the time,” said Hofmann, who said this is the first time the family actually found the medallion during their hunt. “And it was the clue today (Thursday) that led us right to it.”
Clue number three in Thursday’s edition of the Brainerd Dispatch hinted to the far ends of the fairgrounds.
“Circle round, search high and low. To the outskirts you might go.”
Hofmann said he and Patrick, 13, and Thomas, 8, went out to the back corner of the fairgrounds toward the clover field and snowmobile track. Territory he added, that appeared to have been already searched.
“The grass was all trampled, so people had been looking there,” said Hofmann, resident of St. Mathias. “And with today’s clue that said ‘circle round’ we thought to look by the big water tank and there it was.”
And since it was the animals that brought the Hofmann’s to the fairgrounds to begin with, Hofmann said it’s only fair they get some benefit from the $1,000 grand prize.
“Like I said, we look because we are here with the animals, so we’re going to use this to put up a fence.”
