Texas man killed in head-on motorcycle crash

CROSSLAKE — A 67-year-old Texas man was killed Friday when the motorcycle he was driving collided head on with a motor vehicle on Crow Wing County Road 36, in Fairfield Township near Crosslake, reported the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.

Bernie Nieters was pronounce dead at the scene of the crash.

It was determined that Nieters was traveling west on County Road 36, when the motorcycle failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and entered into the oncoming traffic lane. The motorcycle collided head on with an east-bound motor vehicle.

It was reported that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in this crash.

The crash was investigated by the sheriff’s office and the Minnesota State Patrol. Crosslake Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, First Responders, Crosby Ambulance Service and the Crosslake Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office at the crash that was reported at 4:54 p.m.
