Crow Wing Township cleans up property site
Crow Wing Township officials on Monday began cleaning up a property with a longstanding outside storage violation of the land use ordinance. The property is at 7193 Barrows Ave.
Township officials said the town board started working with the property owner more than two years ago after receiving multiple and continuing complaints for many years. After repeatedly failing to make deadline, the property owner appeared in court in the fall of 2011 and pleaded guilty to being in violation of the land use ordinance. The judge ordered cleanup, but again, this did not occur, township officials said.
The township filed a civil case to which the property owner did not respond. The judge then ordered the property owner to clean up within 30 days and when that did not happen, the judge issued an order granting the township authority to go in an abate the violation.
The Crow Wing Town Board and Crow Wing County Planning Commission have been working on cleaning up violations within the township. This property was addressed first because it has generated the most complaints over the years. Complaints continue to be received about other properties within the township. Several other property owners have voluntarily complied with cleanup requests, but there are also some in violation that are showing little or no improvement, township officials said.
