Sign up for a library card in September

Sign up for a library card in September at the Brainerd Public Library and help score a touchdown.

For every child 10 and under who signs up for a new card, the library’s quarterback will run a yard. The quarterback will start at the 25 yard line and will run its way to the end zone. If it scores a touchdown by the end of September, the library will host a movie and popcorn party. Besides the excitement of rushing the ball, kids also will receive a canvas book bag and a free book of their own.

As Brainerd lakes area students head back to school, the library wants to make sure that all children have the most important school supply, a library card.

Owning a library card provides students the resources they need to compete academically. Nationally, the average library user takes out more than seven books a year, but users turn to their libraries for more than books: To borrow DVDs, to learn new computer skills, to conduct job searches and to participate in the activities of local and community organizations.

Children are able to choose their own book and receive a canvas bag donated by an anonymous library supporter who is committed to helping children read. Supplies are limited.

There are more than 12,000 Brainerd Library card holders.
