Wildlife advocacy workshop is Friday

The Minnesota Chapter of The Wildlife Society (MTWS) will host a workshop, “Grassroots Advocacy for Our Wildlife Resources,” from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, at the Crow Wing State Park enclosed picnic shelter. MTWS is a professional organization of scientists, managers, educators, technicians, planners, and others who work actively to study, manage, and conserve wildlife and habitats.

This workshop will provide MTWS members and interested others information on advocacy, so decision makers can be effectively influenced on concerns and opportunities regarding wildlife resource conservation.

Speakers from Minnesota Conservation Federation, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, The Nature Conservancy, North Dakota Natural Resources Trust and the office of U.S. Chip Cravaack, R-Minn., plus State Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, will share their perspectives. A panel/group discussion will end the morning, followed by a potluck picnic.

The workshop fee is $15, payable at the door. Students are free. A $3 park fee is payable at the park entrance if vehicles do not have annual park stickers. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. MTWS will provide grilled meat and buns, and lemonade. To register, contact Jodie Provost at 218-838-3553. Coffee will be on at 8 a.m. Feel free to arrive early to visit. More information on MTWS can be found at their website at www.mntws.org.
