TV host to serve as Aitkin fish house parade grand marshall
AITKIN — Jason Davis, host and producer of the TV show “On The Road with Jason Davis” which airs on KSTP TV, will be the grand marshal for the 22nd annual parade Nov. 23 in Aitkin.
The Fish House Parade is an annual tradition that celebrates the coming of Minnesota’s longest season — winter. The unconventional parade takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving in downtown Aitkin. Organizers said it was spawned from a keen sense of humor and long Minnesota winters, Aitkin reported. The parade consists of ice-fishing houses loaded on trailers, in pickup truck boxes, or other means of conveyance paraded down the main street on their way to the 365 frozen lakes surrounding the rural Minnesota community of Aitkin.
“The catch is, these ice houses are decorated in wacky and outrageous manners, with the goal of each fisherman trying to be more extreme and humorous than the next,” Aitkin reported.
The parade begins at 1 p.m. The event includes live music, food, craft sale, retail promotions, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. For more information about the Aitkin Fish House Parade, contact Kelly Simons, parade chairperson, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 218-839-9484.
