Volunteers pitch in WDC media center

The once-bare shelves at the new Wadena-Deer Creek media center are now filled with more than 10,000 books waiting in anticipation for grades 5-12 students.

WDC Media Center Specialist Loni Niles said volunteers and staff recently helped move the boxes out of the semi-trailer and into the media center, while another group of volunteers and staff help unpack and organize the books on the shelves.

Even students have given of their time this summer and fall, said Niles. Student helpers included Molly Kraemer, Austin Hendershot, Matt Green, Harlan Reese and Nathaniel Brown. Niles also acknowledges the custodial staff and WDC Elementary Media Center Assistant Jane Malone for all their assistance in getting the grades 5-12 media center up and running.

“I received many offers from alumni, former staff, relatives, friends and the community who wanted to help,” said Niles. “It’s great to see such an outpouring of individuals of all ages who want to give of their time toward the school.”
