■ Baxter man suffers accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound

A 24-year-old Baxter man suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand Monday while working at Paradigm Performance in Brainerd, the Brainerd Police Department reported.

Brainerd Police Chief Corky McQuiston reported that Gregory Schmidt was attempting to disassemble a Taurus 9 mm handgun that he thought was unloaded when it discharged into his hand at the business, located at 310 W. Laurel St.

Schmidt went to the emergency room at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd to be treated for his injury.

It was reported that no one else was injured in the incident.

The incident was reported at 3:29 p.m.
