Baby, it's cold outside
Mike Diehl of Brainerd planted sedum in a parking lot median on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College Thursday as part of Landscape Technology studies in the Horticulture program. Instructor Jeff Dirks said sedum is a hardy, drought-resistant perennial that will help groundskeepers reduce the use of water, resources, and time.
Students grew 4,000 plants in the campus greenhouse and partnered with CLC Environmental Committee to inaugurate the effort that will involve more plants in coming years. The project is one of many that beautify the grounds and offer real-world conditions, such as the 28-degree wind chill students endured during the four-hour exercise.
