The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a call at 12:53 p.m. Sunday of a large hazardous material spill at Costco on 13650 Elder Drive in Baxter.
It was reported that more than five gallons of Ethyl nitrate spilled near the gas tanks of the new Costco store that was not yet opened. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating the spill.
Firefighters Sunday also responded to a call at 3:21 p.m. of a fire concern on 3583 Autumn Court, just north of Baxter on Highway 371; a call at 6:43 p.m. of an illegal burn on Linden Lane in south Brainerd; and at 7:53 p.m. of a large brush pile fire at 5457 Erin Road in south Brainerd.
On Saturday, firefighters responded to a gas smell at 3:51 p.m. at Almost Home on 28th Street in Brainerd, that was unfounded. Firefighters also responded to a call at 6:50 p.m. of a smell in the utility room on 167 Buffalo Hills Lane. Nothing was found.
A grass fire reported around 3:30 p.m. Monday at 16728 County Road 109 in Mission Township in Crow Wing County burned about one acre. Mission Fire Department Lt. Rex Roach said no structures were threatened. He was not aware of any injuries. Mission Fire Department assisted the DNR on scene.
