Border-to-border line patrol announced by state patrol

Looking ahead to next month’s deer firearms season opener, the Brainerd State Patrol District is organizing a statewide saturation on U.S. Highway 169, on Nov. 2.

Troopers in the Brainerd District will be working cooperatively with other districts including Mankato, West Metro St. Cloud and Virginia, to conduct high-visibility patrols across one of Minnesota’s main corridors during the high-traffic deer hunting opener. Troopers will be partnering with county and municipal agencies in this effort.

According to Lt. Joe Dwyer, “Troopers already scheduled to work in their respective district will plan accordingly to spend their unobligated time patrolling Highway 169. The premise behind the “line patrol” style of enforcement lies in the hope that motorists traversing the state from one end to the other may have the opportunity to see our hard working troopers and other agency officers at more than one location along the way.”

According to Sgt. Curt Mowers, public information officer, “This is just one of the many high visibility projects that have become more commonly used as an enforcement tool by troopers and other agencies in the effort to help save lives.” Sgt. Mowers also reminds motorists that, “It is very critical for all motorists to slow down, buckle up, driver sober and pay attention at all times and for everyone to take personal responsibility for their own actions behind the wheel.”
