October foreclosures nearly match those from a year ago

October foreclosure numbers were nearly identical to those posted a year ago.

There were 22 foreclosures in Crow Wing County in October, which was a slight increase from September’s 19 foreclosure sales.

In 2011, the county had 28 foreclosures in October with 52 more pending. This year, there were fewer foreclosures on the near horizon with 43 pending as of October. But that number is an increase from the past two months. The number of pending foreclosures had dropped from 41 in August to 29 in September. The numbers are reduced from those in 2010 when October posted 45 foreclosures with 40 more in the pipeline.

While each foreclosure indicates a difficult decision and stress for homeowners, the pending numbers now are lower than those posted in 2010 when having 60 homes nearing the foreclosure precipice was nearly routine.

There have been 235 foreclosures so far this year in Crow Wing County, 83 fewer than a year ago when the county had 318 foreclosure sales by October. By the end of 2011, the number of foreclosures would reach 369.

Since the start of the Great Recession, the highest number of foreclosures to date in Crow Wing County came in 2010 with 388.
