Shoplifting leads to police chase in Morrison County

LITTLE FALLS — What started out as two females stealing two televisions from the Wal-Mart Store in Little Falls, turned into a high-speed police chase, ending with the suspect vehicle running off the road, hitting an embankment at the junction of Morrison County Road 41 and Highway 27, just east of Lastrup, reported the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported at 1:45 a.m. Thursday. A sheriff’s office deputy spotted the suspect vehicle at 1:53 a.m., just west of Pierz on Highway 27. The deputy made a traffic stop on the vehicle and approached the vehicle. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed. After pursuing the vehicle at high rates of speed on several county roads east of Pierz, the suspect vehicle ran off the road and hit an embankment, just east of Lastrup.

The driver, a 24-year-old Isle woman, and all three passengers — a 25-year-old Onamia woman, a 31-year-old Onamia woman and a 26-year-old Minneapolis woman — in the suspect vehicle were injured. The passengers were taken to local hospitals by ambulance and the driver was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where she has been treated and released.

The driver is currently in custody at the Morrison County Jail pending formal felony charges for fleeing a peace officer.

The stolen televisions were located in the vehicle.

It was reported that other charges relating to the theft are also pending against the three passengers in the vehicle through the Little Falls Police Department.
