Morrison foundation supports vets' cemetery
The Morrison County Area Foundation awarded $1,000 to the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Association.
The money was used to help with the Veterans Educational Historic Project — a series of five 8 by 10 foot oil paintings that depict the history of the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard with the contributions of Merchant Mariners during World War II also incorporated. The paintings will hang in the Committal Hall of the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery located in Morrison County to honor those who served.
“The Morrison County Area Foundation board was pleased to approve this request because it will honor the sacrifices of veterans and beautify the Committal Hall at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery,” Robin Klosowski, president of the Morrison County Area Foundation, said.
Work on the conceptual drawings for the project began in the fall of 2009, and the first painting was installed in the Committal Hall in November 2011. Completion of the entire project is anticipated by the fall of 2014. The Memorial Association commissioned Charles Gilbert Kapsner of Little Falls to design and execute the project. Kapsner is an internationally renowned artist whose works include fresco, oil painting and drawings.
