Brainerd School District reaches agreement in Principal's Contract

A long negotiation period between the Brainerd School District and the 2011-12 and 2012-13 principal’s contract has come to a final agreement. Superintendent Steve Razidlo said that the principals have accepted an agreement with a 0 percent salary increase for the first year and a salary enhancement for the next year.

“Number one, I am thankful to be done after what was a long negotiation period and we are happy to report that as has happened in other agreements that the principal’s group agreed to a 0 percent first part which has already gone by,” said Razidlo. “And a second year increase which falls within the (Brainerd School) board’s parameters and in the middle of the pack agreements that have transpired across all groups.”

Razidlo said that the agreement also effectively completes the reform that the district was seeking regarding retirement healthcare.

“It eliminates it,” said Razidlo. “Which was one of the stated intentions and hopes of foreign negotiations across all groups.

“We’re appreciative of the efforts of all the negotiation partners across the district and I am hopeful for high quality conversations moving forward.”

Brainerd School Board approved the ratification of the contract at its November meeting with a 4-2 vote. Board member Tom Haglin voted against it, stating he disagreed with the salary enhancement portion of the contract, as did Chair Chris Robinson, citing the same disagreement as Haglin.

Actually contract numbers were not made immediately available on Thursday but will be included in future updates.
