December's volunteer of the month: Pat Wlasiuk

December’s volunteer of the month

Volunteer Coordinators Association of Crow Wing County honors the December 2012 adult volunteer of the month Pat Wlasiuk.

Hometown: Brainerd.

Family: Children Tim, Cindy, Mike, Jeff; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Volunteer activities: Meal on Wheels; rides for appointments; St. Andrews Church; funeral meals; Lakes Area Law Enforcement Association where she helps with traffic control for parades, races, triathlons, Halloween safety events; brat sales; “Shop With a Cop” for underprivileged children; and assist in handing out safety-orientated coloring books and crayons at the Crow Wing County Fair. Pat is also an active member of RSVP Volunteer Services who is always willing to help out wherever she is needed.

I volunteer because: “I like to help others as I have been helped in the past. It is very heart warming and I am glad to have the time to volunteer.”

My most rewarding volunteer experience is or has been: “Shop With a Cop” when I see the smiles and excitement on the children’s faces.

Nominated by: Diane Carlson, Lakes Area Law Enforcement Association.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
