Civil War and women's movement to be focus of Jan. 8 presentation

Presentation continues Civil War and Women’s Movement discussion

Karen and John DeVries will present the second of a two-part program centered on the sesquicentennial “celebration” of the Civil War.

Special emphasis will be on the turning-point battles of the war that led to Union victory, Abraham Lincoln’s leadership, Robert E. Lee and U.S. Grant at Appomattox and the impact of the war on American politics and society.

Woven through the discussion will be a continuing focus on the role women played during the war. Included will be a display and a discussion of Civil War era quilts. The event is free for Center for Lifelong Learning at Central Lakes College and $6 for non-members. The presentation is 4-5:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd in Room E208.
