Brainerd Komen race raises more than $100,000

Organizers of the Susan G. Komen Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure, announced that in 2012, the Brainerd Lakes Race met a major milestone, raising more than $100,000 and exceeding the previous year’s amount by more than $5,600.


Megan Morgan, co-chair of the Brainerd Lakes Race, said this is a significant accomplishment for the Brainerd Lakes Race leadership, participants and the community, given the challenging economic environment.

The Brainerd lakes area receives $202,536 from the Minnesota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

In 2010, the Komen Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure became part of the Minnesota affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As a result, money raised by the Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure contribute to the financial awards granted by the Minnesota affiliate to organizations throughout the entire state of Minnesota for breast health and breast cancer screening support programs and for critical research performed globally.

In 2012, the Minnesota affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure distributed more than $2.3 million for education, screening, treatment, support services and research. The Brainerd lakes area benefited directly with awards of $92,536 to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center, $80,000 to the Riverwood Foundation, Aitkin and Crosby and $30,000 to St. Joseph’s Foundation Pink Ribbon Cupboard – doubling the amount raised in the local community.

For more than 10 years, the Brainerd lakes area business community has supported the Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure, organizers said. As in past years, the 2013 race for the Cure will depend on sponsorship from area businesses for support. The race offers several opportunities at a variety of levels to match a company’s marketing goals and budgets.
