Dairy princess, ambassador candidates sought to represent Crow Wing County

PIERZ — The American Dairy Association of Crow Wing County is seeking candidates to participate in this year’s dairy princess and dairy ambassador program.

Dairy princesses and ambassadors promote the dairy industry by appearing at various promotional events and speaking to consumers and the media. The contest will be March 16 at the Pierz Ballroom.

A candidate for senior dairy princess must be a high school graduate by July 1, 2013, and not yet 24 years old by July 1, 2013. The candidate or her parents must be actively engaged in the production of milk for sale to a licensed plant during the current year. A candidate also qualifies if she or her parents are employed on a dairy farm in a dairy-related capacity.

A junior dairy princess candidate must have the same qualifications as a senior princess but be between the ages of 13 and a junior in high school. A dairy ambassador may be male or female between the ages of 13 and 24 and have a desire to promote the dairy industry.

County senior dairy princesses are eligible to attend a statewide promotion training seminar this spring and may apply to be considered as a finalist for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title. Twelve finalists will be selected to compete for the Princess Kay title in August.

At all levels of competition, contestants are judged on their communication skills, personality, enthusiasm for dairy promotion and general knowledge of the dairy industry. Deadline for all applications is Feb. 1. For a complete rules brochure and application form, contact Rosanne Caughey at 828-1998.
