Walker man critically injured in crash

Roads were wet as two vehicles were involved in a broadside crash Saturday morning on Highway 18 near Brainerd.

Three people were injured in the crash, which was reported at 7:14 a.m., the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

Ronald Demo, 47, Walker, the driver of one of the vehicles, was in critical condition and taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Demo was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix north on Two Mile Road and failed to yield at the stop sign, the state patrol reported. The other driver, Jack Fitzwater, 40, of Hutchinson, was driving a Dodge Caravan west on Highway 18.

Fitzwater suffered a non life-threatening injury and was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Fitzwater’s passenger, Jess Olson, 35, also of Hutchinson, was treated at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center and released.

Fitzwater was wearing a seat belt. It was unknown if Olson was wearing one.
