Bremer foundation grants are listed

The Otto Bremer Foundation has announced grants totaling $1,743,153

in the Brainerd charter area, which stretches from Pillager to Bemidji

and from Duluth to Brainerd.

Created in 1944, the Otto Bremer

Foundation assists people in achieving full economic, civic and social

participation in and for the betterment of their communities. The

foundation owns 92 percent of Bremer Bank.

The foundation highlights the following grant recipients in the Brainerd lakes area:


Wing County Community Services, $7,500, Brainerd. To support a project

that will distribute healthy snack bags to elementary school children

participating in the free and reduced lunch programs.


Friends Foundation, $36,750, Crosby. To support Access4All, a literacy

and technology project that works to create opportunities within the

community to allow online card access and ebooks.

Kinship Partners, Inc., $40,000, Brainerd. To support the growth and outreach of the one-on-one mentoring program.


Area Restorative Justice Project, $52,000, Pequot Lakes. For general

operating support of this Crow Wing County organization which uses

restorative justice processes to address school behavioral issues and

truancy and reduce juvenile crime.

Rural Minnesota CEP, Inc.,

$89,720, Detroit Lakes. To support a project that will offer career

advising for students enrolled in the Brainerd High School.


School District, $10,000. To support the Fathers Reading Every Day

program which prepares children to be successful literacy learners.

Brainerd Public Schools.

Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen, $41,154. To

support kitchen renovations for this organization that serves meals to

people in need in the Brainerd area.

Northern Minnesota Public

Television, Inc., $50,000. To support the construction of a modern,

accessible, public media facility that will serve the northern and

central Minnesota region.

Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin

Lakes and Pines Council $30,000, Waite Park. To support a project which

will provide leadership opportunities for young girls. Provided

programming to Girl Scouts in the Brainerd lakes area.

Staples School District, $50,000. To support a renovation project that will serve as a family center in Motley.

Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration $50,000.


AIDS Action Network, $45,000, Little Falls. To support general

operating and for a challenge grant to increase individual online

giving for this organization that serves individuals living with or

affected by HIV/AIDS.

Initiative Foundation, $220,000, Little

Falls. For the Thriving Organizations Partnership, a program to help

nonprofit organizations with financial resiliency, social enterprise,

effective programming and leadership development.


Department of Employment and Economic Development, $78,455,

Minneapolis. To support a project that will develop Talent Community in

Brainerd, Fergus Falls and



Entrepreneur Fund, Inc., $30,000, Virginia, Minn. To support the Be

Strategic: Grow Your Business groups in Aitkin and Koochiching counties.


Within Reach, $17,600, Grand Rapids. To support victims and increase

public awareness about sexual violence in Aitkin County.


Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, $65,000, Brainerd. To

improve the transportation infrastructure at the Brainerd facility.
