Kirk Hibbert won his second International 500 Snowmobile Race as Kevin Spielman of Brainerd finished 6th. Spielman was 8th last year. Tom Feierabend, the oldest racer at 50, finished in 16th place. Greg Watland of Nisswa finished 33rd.

Strong defensive play in the second quarter, in which Alexandria made just one field goal in seven tries, helped Coach Roger Nibbe’s Warrior girls to a 42-37 basketball win. But, Nibbe was not happy with the number of Brainerd miscues that kept it close.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Perkins of Crosslake were notified that their son, Air Force Major Glendon Perkins, is among the prisoners of war that will be released by North Vietnam. Peace agreements were signed and fighting was to stop at 6 p.m. yesterday.

Brainerd residents who have been “stockpiling” parking tickets have until Feb 6th to pay up or face a court appearance. Police Chief Louis Rofidal said some folks have repeatedly ignored mailed notices. Tickets are $1 if paid in 48 hours, and $2 thereafter.

It cost $64.50 to educate each student in the Brainerd public schools during the year ended July 31, 1932, according to the school board. This compares favorably with the cost at other Minnesota schools. Cost to educate a student, K through 12, is $775.

Leon Lum of Duluth, who has large interests in Brainerd, was interviewed today regarding the need for a new railroad depot. “Brainerd has no need of a new depot. But the one Brainerd now has is in filthy condition, a disgrace to the railway and the city.”
