Adult Volunteer of the Month: Verna Vanderburgh

Adult volunteer of the month

Volunteer Coordinators Association of Crow Wing County honors the February 2013 adult volunteer of the month, Verna Vanderburgh.

Hometown: Brainerd.

Family: 2 sons, 1 daughter, 11 grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren.

Volunteer Activities: Northland Arboretum, where since 2006 she has volunteered weekly maintaining their membership, greeting visitors, answering phones in addition to many miscellaneous tasks. Verna also enjoys serving at the Brainerd Public Library. She is also the founding director of the RSVP Volunteer Services program and currently serves on their Board of Directors.

I volunteer because: “I like to get out and it makes me feel good doing for others.”

My most rewarding volunteer experience is or has been: “I cannot pinpoint just one thing but working at the Northland Arboretum keeps me busy and gives me someplace to go and a place to utilize my skills and talents.”

Nominated by: Dale Braddy, Northland Arboretum.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
