Two Brainerd dancers to be in Super Bowl halftime show
Two Brainerd High School (BHS) graduates will take the stage with Beyonce Knowles Sunday dancing during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVII to held in New Orleans.
Alexandra Clough, a 2007 BHS graduate, and Brittney Schubert, a 2010 BHS graduate, are in New Orleans for dance rehearsals. Beyonce Thursday released a video on her website at www.beyonce.com of rehearsal footage.
Cindy Clough, executive director of Just For Kix (JFK), and Alexandra’s mother, Friday said she watched part of the rehearsals. She said the girls missed the first day of rehearsals, which were scheduled Jan. 23, but they rehearsed Jan. 25 and Thursday. Clough said they took Friday off and will practice again Saturday and Sunday before the Super Bowl.
“They are super excited,” said Clough. “The halftime show is amazing. I wish I could tell you about it. From the style of dance to the lighting to how they put it all together, it’s going to be an incredible show. They are putting in some long days.”
Clough flew back to Brainerd Friday because she is the head coach for the Brainerd High School dance team that will compete Saturday at the Section 8-3A dance competition at Elk River High School. Clough will then fly back Sunday.
This is not Alexandra Clough’s first time dancing at a Super Bowl halftime show. Clough, who currently teaches at JFK studio and camps and is a costume designer, danced in the 2011 Super Bowl with the Black Eyed Peas. During the 2011 Super Bowl, the costumes in the halftime show were designed by Clough and made at the Just For Kix Baxter warehouse.
Clough has studied privately with Deb Hanson, a Tuka system pattern maker consultant.
Schubert currently is a third-year student at St. Thomas University. She teaches at the Brainerd and Medina JFK studios and summer camps.
There will be more about the Brainerd connection to the Super Bowl in Monday’s Dispatch.
