Buster Park, a Playground for Dogs, is the name of the Brainerd’s new dog park.
Approval for the dog park — with plans to use about 40,000 square feet in Kiwanis Park — was given in December.
Brainerd resident Bob Rudsenske donated $15,000 to help build the park. His dog’s name is Buster.
Elite Fence of Baxter was approved for the bid of $10,250 for the fence and $2,252 for the installation. The Brainerd Park Board voted against requiring a special dog park license to use the park, noting the number of out-of-town visitors to the area.
Tony Sailer, parks and recreation department director, reported fundraising for other amenities in the park, such as signs, is continuing. The 4-acre Kiwanis Park is at 1101 East River Road in Brainerd.
Previously, Sailer said Kiwanis Park was chosen because of its central location in the city and connections to the existing Boom Lake Trail and future plans to connect the Buffalo Hills trail.
