The big one is coming

The mercury is climbing back toward bearable temperatues but winter isn’t over yet. According to the National Weather service, the big one is on its way.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issue a winter storm watch for much of Minnesota, including the Brainerd lakes area, from late Saturday through Monday afternoon.

The watch includes Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Todd and Wadena counties, and stretches as far north as International Falls.

Early predictions are calling accumulation “significant” with 6 inches or more projected for the Brainerd lakes area.

The National Weather Service in Duluth said snow accumulations of 6-10 inches “looks pretty good” for the Brainerd area with some spots seeing up to a foot of snowfall.

The storm is expected to move in Saturday night with the heaviest snow falling Sunday afternoon and evening at 1-2 inches per hours. An addition inch of snow is expected Monday.

With snowfall, winds of 15-20 miles per hour are expected with gusts up to 25 miles per hour causing hazardous snow drifts, poor visibility and possible whiteout conditions.
