CAMP RIPLEY — The North Star Dog Club will hold its Winter Warrior Sled Dog Races Feb. 17-17 on Camp Ripley property.

“This is the first time that Camp Ripley has hosted such an event and we are excited for the public to come out and enjoy this unique and entertaining sport,” said Maj. John Donovan, a public affairs spokesperson for Camp Ripley.

The races will start at 9 a.m. and conclude around 4 p.m. on both days.

Competitors will race one-dog sleds all the way up to 10-dog teams. A one-dog race will cover four to five miles where 10-dog teams will race as many as 25 miles. Spectators will be able to watch the start and finish of each race according to The North Star Dog Club.

The event is free and open to the public. Visitors driving on to Camp Ripley need to show a valid driver’s license. Vehicles will proceed down to Area 27 where they will be directed to park.
