Two workers were transported to the hospital after an equipment fire at Wausau Paper Saturday

Two workers were transported to the hospital from Wausau Paper in northeast Brainerd after an equipment malfunction in the steam plant.

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to the incident at 2:51 a.m. Saturday at 1801 Mill Ave. The fire was reported to be contained to the equipment with minor physical damage to the plant. No update on the extent of injuries to employees was available Sunday.

In other calls, Brainerd firefighters were called to Jimmy’s Pizza at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, but the alarm may have been triggered by a burglary alarm instead. No fire was found.

A vehicle fire was reported at 1:05 p.m. Sunday on the 900 block of Poplar Drive. The vehicle was considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak on the 15700 block of McKay Road.
