Heavy snow, ice leads to fire calls

Saturday’s freezing rain and then heavy snow made for picture perfect views as snow clung to trees, but it wasn’t quite the same story for power lines.

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to three calls in succession about 7:47 p.m. Saturday for branches arcing or on fire as they touched power lines. The calls came in for Wels Avenue in Barrows and Excelsior Drive in Baxter.
